Are you fed up with the brown stains that occur on the bathroom walls and tiles due to water hardness? However, hard water is harmful to your skin and hair too. There are many reasons due to which water softeners are becoming essential for people.

The water softener is known as the whole house filtration system. Furthermore, it is useful for removing the hardness from the water, calcium, and magnesium. The whole process is known as ion exchange.

Uses Of Water Softener In Daily Life

A water softener is useful for addressing the most crucial issue, i.e., water hardness. It removes the presence of excess minerals from the water during the filtration process. However, the hard water is causing issues in modern houses.

Scale builds up in the pipes fitted to carry the water to the different areas in the home. It affects the water pressure, and other pieces of equipment include coffee makers, dishwashers, and ice-making machines.

Hard water is harmful because it affects the hot water appliances working. The higher levels of temperatures solidify the calcium and magnesium in a large quantity. It deposits in the water heater, and the water heater pops like popcorn as the level of magnesium and calcium deposits increases.

You want to do the laundry work at home without the water softener. In that case, you have to use an excess of detergents while washing the clothes properly. Dishes will look stained after coming out from the dishwasher.

Bathing in the hard water causes itchiness in the skin. It will make your hair look dizzy and dry. You can easily get rid of such issues by installing the water softener on the overhead tank of your home.

Components Of Water

There are three components present in the water softener: the control valve, brine tank, and mineral tank. All of these three components work together which removes the hardness from the water. It controls the water flow from the pipes installed in the house.

  • Mineral Tank

The mineral tank contains the chamber where the hard water becomes soft. The lines of the tank put the hard water in it. In the process, the water seeps from the raisin beds and then deposits the calcium and magnesium ions from the hard water. Then, the soft water passes from the control valves, flows through the pipes, and reaches the household appliances.

  • Control Valve

The control valve performs its work of checking the quantity of the water passing from the mineral tank. It passes through the mineral tank then, in the resin, beads exchange the sodium ions from the hardness ions from the water. The resins continue to deplete in softening the hard water in the mineral tank and then supplying it. The beads become a burden with the weight of the magnesium and calcium ions. Then, the control valve automatically starts with the regeneration cycle. It does the pre-programmed functioning while softening the water during the process. The control valves contain the demand-initiated systems, which allow the water softening units to function efficiently.

  • Brine Tank

The brink tank is an essential system useful for water regeneration purposes. It is the shorter-sized tank that is fitted near the overhead tank. It contains the concentrated salt solution that is restored in the resin beads for the positive charge. The technicians manually add the salt in the form of the pellets or blocks in the brine tank. It dissolves in the water at the bottom area of the tank. The control valve registers the softening capacity of the water in the overhead tank. Add the salt to the brine tank constantly. It does the water softening in the main tank.

Working Of A Water Softener

The process of the water softening is the ion exchange. It does the elimination of calcium and magnesium from the water. There is the spherical resins bed on which the hard water passes through the mineral tank. The anions are the resin beds, and they have a negative charge in them. On the other hand, magnesium and calcium contain positive in them, which makes cation. You know that the opposite charges of the minerals attract each other. All the hard water passes through the resins, and the beads hold the minerals calcium and magnesium in them. It makes them harder with time. You have to add salt to the brine tank frequently. It does the water softening work. However, the salt level decreases from it then, the water softening will not happen in the ion exchange process. Hard water is harmful to electrical appliances, water pipes, and your health so get a water softener for home and get rid of hard water.
