Do you worry about bears?
I’m not talking about the ones that live in Ohio. There are other types of bears out there that can be just as dangerous, and it’s important to know how to avoid them. In this article, we will discuss what to do if you come face-to-face with a bear while on your hike in the woods.
It’s important to know the different types of bears in order to be safe. Black bears are shy by nature and will usually avoid humans if possible, but grizzly bears can be dangerous because they’re more aggressive. These two types of bear have vastly different habitats so it’s best not to mix them up.
If you come face-to-face with a black bear while on your hike in the woods: stay calm! It may seem counterintuitive that staying still would make things better, but black bears are naturally skittish animals that tend to run away from humans when given enough space for retreat (it should also help alleviate any fear or anxiety). If this doesn’t work and there is no way out, use pepper spray.
